EXHIBITION
ELIA LI GIOI

The MIGRATIONMUSEUMMIGRATION also organizes exhibitions. These offer the opportunity to further explore certain migration themes.

In recent years, more and more people have arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean. They risk their lives in rickety boats in the hope of a better life in Europe. Some of them travel from Greece, Italy, Spain, ... to Brussels. The exhibition, "From Pain to Hope" by contemporary artist Elia Li Gioi depicts this current theme.

Elia Li Gioi lives in Sicily. He is a committed man who has been committed to social integration, literacy and the promotion of culture and solidarity for years. In recent years he has seen people wash up on the beach with his own eyes. As a person and as an artist, he did not want to stand on the sidelines. He went to work with the material he found on the beach: life jackets, remains of boats with which people risked the perilous crossing, nails, survival material.

In the MIGRATIEMUSEUMMIGRATION he presents an installation. A shipwreck enters into a dialogue with 7 collages that represent the (dis)hope of mankind. Elia Li Gioi's message is very clear. The Mediterranean Sea must once again become a sea of peace and encounter and not that of death. For some migrants in Brussels, this story will be very recognizable. It is part of their recent past.

Other exhibitions will follow in the future.
